Christ Is Risen!
Christ Is Risen!

This statement is very important and up to date at all times.
During the Great Lent we had an opportunity to think and work on ourselves.
This is usually a favorable time for icon painting because one has a rest from worldly distractions and things.
The students of our school have started working on the Icon of Christ “Not Made By Hands”.
Before the work has begun Father Svyatoslav (the Rector of the Church of St. John Chrysostom) met with the students and gave them a lecture on the history of this Icon as well as the dogmatic background of the veneration of icons by the Orthodox Church.
The practice sessions have started with making a sketch and progressed to more elaborate icon painting techniques, including gilding, egg tempera painting, learning about pigments and brush strokes.
I keep learning too. I had a chance to take a calligraphy class from a wonderful teacher Georgia Angelopoulos. Big Thank you to Dr. Mark Charlton and to everyone who helped to organize this course!
And now Pascha is here! The Feast of Feasts was celebrated with a festive Service. See Church of St. John Chrysostom website for the pictures.

Yours sincerely,

Alla
